Single Body Merger
Welsh Government intends to establish a new, single body for the management of Wales' natural resources. Under this proposal Forestry Commission Wales will be merged with the Countryside Council for Wales and the Environment Agency.
Confor and Wales Forest Business Partnership (WFBP) organised a briefing on Thursday 9th February 2012 at Elephant and Castle Hotel, Newtown, to update you on the consultation process and to help you respond.
Consultations:
For Welsh businesses there are two consultations that will be of the utmost importance
“Natural Resources Wales – Proposed Arrangements for Establishing and Directing a New Body for the Management of Wales’ Natural Resources”. This is about the merger of FCW with CCW and EA.
It was launched on 9th February and will close on 2nd May.

“Sustaining a Living Wales – A Green Paper on a new approach to natural resource management in Wales” was launched on 30th January and will close on 31st May.This is the next stage of “A Living Wales” which Confor responded to in December 2010. It is a called a green paper because it is the first stage of a legislative process. Once the consultation closes, a white paper will be drafted which will become the Environment Bill and the Planning Bill and pass into law in 2014 or 2015.
